Sometime your e-mail deletion bin gets so full that you will not be able to send or receive e-mails. It also helps to control what is in the deletion bin both in your e-mail program and within your other programs and operating system. If you have large amounts of any files or even directories you want to delete, here is how you can do it.
How to delete files:
We will start with e-mail. However this process is a Windows function and be used almost anywhere. We start with the deletion bin. We will assume you have quite a few e-mail in the bin.
- Deleting the entire “deleted items” bin (directory).
-
- Select (click on) any file.
- Hit the Ctrl & A keys together. This will select (highlight) all the files.
- Hit the delete key. It will bring up a screen asking you if you really want to delete these files or e-mails. WARNING!! If you say yes they will be gone forever.
- Deleting files that are next to each other.
- If files are next to each other you can delete them in bulk (all together).
- Click on one of the files.
- Hold down the Shift key and click down or up to the last file you want to delete and let go of the Shift key.
- Hit the delete key. It will bring up a screen asking you if you really want to delete these files or e-mails. WARNING!! If you say yes they will be gone forever.
- Deleting files that are seperated from each other
- You can delete files in any order you want if you click on one of the files.
- Now hold down the Ctrl key only.
- While you are holding the key down click on any other files you want to delete.
- Hit the delete key. It will bring up a screen asking you if you really want to delete these files or e-mails. WARNING!! If you say yes they will be gone forever.
- If you want to select several files in a row just combine the key strokes. Example: Select the first few files by clicking on one file and then hold down the shift key and click on the last file you want to delete and release the Shift key. Now hold down the Ctrl key and click on other file(s) you may want to delete.
- WARNING !! If you have files selected do not click on any other file after you release either the Ctrl key or the Shift key. This will unselect any file you had selected and you will need to start over. I have done it and it can be very frustrating if you had a lot of files selected.
