Buy Creator 2009 and HD/BD Plug-in

This is a tough subject because there are a lot of different programs out there.  Some computers come with their own proprietary programs.  You MUST have the restore disk for that particular program in order to get it back in case you have to ever restore your computer.

We’ll mention a couple programs here.  Mostly there are no bad ones.  However, some programs give you many more options.

You must have a program if you plan to cut or copy CDs or DVDs.

ROXIO
I  like this program.  I have used it a lot.  It easily will copy or format CDs or DVDs.  What it can do will depend on which version you buy.  Some versions allow you to record and copy movies and music as well (click on the picture to see more).    If you use a Re-writable CD or DVD you can format it and drag files onto it just like the old floppy drives.   CD-R or DVD-R will not work for this feature.  These are read only.  Once you cut data on these you can not erase it.  You can check a feature that allows you to add data however.

NERO START SMART (versions very as to the features they offer)
I seem to be stuck on this program.  It literally can do everything that I would ever want to do.  It will cut or copy CDs or DVDs.  It will format either one so you can use it like a floppy drive.  CD-R or DVD-R will not work for htis feature.  These are read only.  Once you cut data on these you can not erase it.  You can check a feature that allows you to add data however.  You can make a movie or music disk.  I like the backup feature. OK! I’m stuck on it.  You can make a backup job and run it every time if you want to. You can even do sound recording and then edit the wave later.  I love that feature.  You can also edit Photos.  It will never beat Photoshop but it works pretty good.  I actually got it free with my Sony CD-DVD recorder.  You can buy it of course.  I think I wouldn’t mind paying for it.  Everything is in one package and I don’t think it could be easier to use.

Keyboard shortcuts have become lost over the years. If you can learn them you can save a lot of time and effort in building letters, articles or anything else.  There are more than the ones I am showing you here but these are the “production” keys.  The ones that can help you the most. Link to more shortcut keys and menus.

I love these shortcuts. They are fast and easy and can help you produce articles, letters or anything else very fast.  In fact I used them to create at least parts of this web site.

***If I say to push key “together” it means you must have both key pushed at the same time.

Copying a word or sentence

  1. Drag through the letter, word, sentence, paragraph or even pictures or music files.  Anything you want.  It must be highlighted to be able to copy it.
  2. Hit the Ctrl and letter C together.   You have now put it on what is known as the clip board.  It is a temporary location windows gives you to store you item until your next action.

Pasting your copy to a different area or location
Actually I think this is kind of cool!!

  1. Place your cursor (your mouse pointer) in the “exact” spot were you want to place what you highlighted.
  2. Press the Ctrl and the letter V together.  The will paste the contents in the location you have chosen.

CUT & PASTE
You need to read this a little closer.  Why? because this will literally remove the text from the location you had it in.  If you were to reboot the computer before you paste the text you will (or at least could) lose the content.  This because it stores it in “temporary memory”.  This is lost when you reboot the computer.  If you complete the task you’ll be fine.

  1. Select the letter, word or whatever you want to move or remove.
  2. Press Ctrl and the letter X together.   This should have removed the area you had highlighted.
  3. Now place your cursor in the exact spot you want to place the content you had highlighted.
  4. Press Ctrl and V key.  This should have put all the content you had highlighted before.

This is great if you want to relocate any kind of text.

Sometime your e-mail deletion bin gets so full that you will not be able to send or receive e-mails.  It also helps to control what is in the deletion bin both in your e-mail program and within your other programs and operating system.  If you you have large amounts of any files or even directories you want to delete her is how you can do it.

How to delete files:
We will start with e-mail.  However this process is a Windows function and be used almost anywhere.  We start with the deletion bin.   We will assume you have quite a few e-mail in the bin.

  • Deleting the entire “deleted items”  bin (directory).
    1. Select (click on) any file.
    2. Hit the Ctrl & A keys together.   This will select (highlight) all the files.
    3. Hit the delete key.  It will bring up a screen asking you if you really want to delete these files or e-mails.  WARNING!! If you say yes they will be gone forever.
  • Deleting files that are next to each other.

    1. If files are next to each other you can delete  them in bulk (all together).
    2. Click on one of the files.
    3. Hold down the Shift key and click down or up to the last file you want to delete and let go of the Shift key.
    4. Hit the delete key. It will bring up a screen asking you if you really want to delete these files or e-mails.  WARNING!! If you say yes they will be gone forever.
  • Deleting files that are seperated from each other
  1. You can delete files in any order you want if you click on one of the files.
  2. Now hold down the Ctrl key only.
  3. While you are holding the key down click on any other files you want to delete.
  4. Hit the delete key.  It will bring up a screen asking you if you really want to delete these files or e-mails.  WARNING!! If you say yes they will be gone forever.
  • If you want to select several files in a row just combine the key strokes.  Example: Select the first few files by clicking on one file and then hold down the shift key and click on the last file you want to delete and release the Shift key.  Now hold down the Ctrl key and click on other file(s) you may want to delete.
  • WARNING !! If you have files selected do not click on any other file after you release either the Ctrl key or the Shift key.  This will unselect any file you had selected and you will need to start over.  I have done it and it can be very frustrating if you had a lot of files selected.
